[edit] What is Reputation?
Reputation points are a part of the BioRUST Forum System.
All registered users are able to give, collect, and deduct reputation points from other users, based on their conduct and contributions to the forum.
It is considered to be good manners to add reputation to a user who has offered assistance to you, provided an answer to your question, or posted material that is helpful or beneficial to you in some way.
The flip side, of course, is that you are able to deduct reputation points from users who are rude, harassing or otherwise engage in activities that take away from your enjoyment of the BioRUST community.
It has also become 'fair play' to give a user a +rep for a gallery entry or comment that impresses you, although it has to be done from within the message boards.
[edit] How do I Give or Take Away Reputation?
Adding/Subtracting Reputation
At the bottom left corner of every post, you will see "Reputation: # [+/-]" as highlighted by the blue circle in the image to the right.
If you are intending to give the person who posted that comment a reputation point, click the '+' sign. You will then be permitted to give a reason for the increase which will then be noted in that users Control Panel. If your intention is to deduct a reputation point, click the '-' sign. Again, you will be permitted to provide a reason for the deduction.
NOTE: Deductions should not be given without proper reason.
[edit] How often/How Much reputation can I give or take away?
To prevent abuse of the reputation system, you cannot add reputation to the same person twice in a row. You must first give reputation points to two other users before you can increase the same persons reputation again.
In most cases, you will only be able to add or deduct 1 reputation point at a time from any given user. When you have amassed a decent amount of reputation for yourself, you will be able to add or subtract in larger quantities. New users with 0 reputation points can add or subtract reputation and leave a reason for their action, but with no reputation of their own, they cannot affect the reputation points of any individual. This too is intended to prevent abuse of the system.
