[edit] Adobe Photoshop
In February of 1990, Adobe Systems Inc. introduced Photoshop 1.0.
Based on routines written and compiled by Brothers Thomas and John Knoll beginning in 1987, the software has evolved, improved, and been re-invented almost as often and as quickly as the computer industry itself.
More than 20 years and several versions later, Adobe Photoshop is inarguably the world standard for Image manipulation. Now shipping "CS3" in two different versions; a standard version and a newly added 'extended' version which incorporates ground-breaking features into Photoshop such as 3D modelling and advanced measurement tools. The new 'extended' version is not necessarily 'better' than the the standard version; it is simply aimed at a new audience for Photoshop, such as medical professionals, architects and even film-makers. However, many have criticized Adobe's new two-pronged approach to Photoshop for fear of confusion for the consumer. Despite the potential confusion caused, the May 2007 release of Photoshop CS3 marks the beginning of a new era for the program - there's never been a more exciting time to learn and master Photoshop!
